Gift shop at the Huaorani ecolodge
Kakataro and Wendaro are two small but fascinating communities, also part of the Huaorani Ecolodge project, dedicate themselves to growing local produce for the Lodge and to the production of handicrafts. They are too isolated to be easily visited as part of the normal itinerary, so to overcome the barrier of distance the people of these communities have decided to bring their crafts to the Lodge, where they will be on permanent display. You will see that the crafts from each of the communities, as well as each individual piece of work, has its own unique nature and flavour. You will also notice that the isolation of these two communities has given their attractive crafts a particularly distinctive aspect. As a way to maintain contact between the visitor and the community each item will also carry a special tag with the name and village of the maker. As with other sales of crafts the income will be divided between the Association and the families themselves as well as some souvenirs.
