LETTER FROM THE AMAZON about the Huaorani tribe of the Ecuadorian Amazon, and their efforts to prevent oil development by large oil companies in their tribal region. Tells about a note sent to Edgar S. Woolard, Jr., the chairman and CEO of DuPont, the parent corporation of Conoco oil company, which had oil rights to the Huao lands. Tells about Conoco's elaborate plan to preserve the Huaorani, which included guards, gates, satellite surveillance and other measures designed to prevent colonization of the Huaorani lands.
